At only 12 years of age, Jacque F. embodies everything that’s right about the human spirit: she’s humble, caring, and driven. She set out to complete a Bat Mitzvah project related to animals and earlier this week she made good on her goal by delivering a carload of pet food and supplies to the PAWS/LA warehouse. Her project did not come together over night and it was not an easy undertaking. But, as the fearless leader that she is, Jacque was ready to meet the challenge. She took action. |
Jacque began by brainstorming on how to best inspire her family and friends to give. She started by designing a flyer in which she asked for canned goods. She posted the flyer at her school and in a short time her classmates followed her example and rose to the challenge. Together, they collected enough canned dog and cat food to fill two boxes.
“When I first started, I expected to maybe get 50 cans,” Jacque says. “The response was amazing.”
She next focused her attention on the doggy daycare where her own pups, Dash and Libby, attend. Through the help of the staff and community at the daycare, she gathered more than 70 cans at that location alone. She had more than surpassed her original goal, but Jacque was not done.
Next, she brought her flyer to her father’s office and asked for cans, pet supplies and donations.
By the end of her Bat Mitzvah project, Jacque collected close to 200 cans of dog and cat food, plus many pounds of dry food, kitty litter, and more. She also hand-delivered a check for close to $300 to our office.
Thanks to Jacque and her friends, dozens of Los Angeles County seniors and people living with chronic illness will be able to feed their beloved companion animals this month.
“All I wanted was to help others take care of their pets,” Jacque says.
On top of making a difference in the lives of complete strangers, Jacque also learned a valuable lesson.
“I learned how to be an advocate for what I believe in,” she says. “I received so much support from my family and friends. I learned how to promote a good cause to change the world.”
“It feels really good to help other people and help someone be happier.”
Jacque has an important message for any young person who wants to get involved in their community.
“Believe in yourself,” she says. “When you are passionate about something, follow your heart.”
We applaud Jacque’s effort and congratulate her on a very successful Bat Mitzvah project. We are all very proud of her accomplishments. That is why we have chosen Jacque F. as our Volunteer of the Month for July-August 2015.
