Bring your friendly dogs for a meet and greet with the sailors! PAWS/LA is proud to welcome the men and women of the U.S.S. America. They will be volunteering with our organization this weekend as part of the Los Angeles Fleet Week 2016 festivities. We invite you to join us on Friday, September 2, from 10am - 2pm. You can meet and greet the brave sailors at our office and pet food bank on 2121 S. Flower Street in Downtown LA. All residents of Los Angeles are invited. Fleet Week is a celebration of our U.S. armed forces at our nation’s #1 port, the Port of Los Angeles. The four-day festival will host active military ships along the LA Waterfront and feature public ship tours, military equipment demos, live entertainment, educational activities and more. The USS America crew has asked PAWS/LA to invite people and their friendly dogs for a “meet and greet” with the sailors. Let’s salute the brave men and women who fight to preserve our freedom. |
"We're thrilled to welcome the the USS America and its crew in celebration of LA Fleet Week 2016," said Pamela Magette, executive director of PAWS/LA. "In recent years, research has shown* that active and returning military men and women benefit from animal companionship. It is an honor to work with the USS America as we aim to carry-out our mission of helping preserve the human-animals bond."
Please bring all friendly dogs on a leash. We will provide a tent, water and snacks for pets. We will also have some PAWS/LA logo freebies for those in attendance. For more information about this event please contact dortiz@pawsla.org or call our office directly at 213-741-1950.
*A 2015 study by the University of Texas suggests that veterans thrive with animal companions. During the course of the study, veterans with companion animals had higher levels of Oxycontin, the chemical that reduces stress and regulates a healthy heartbeat, than those veterans who did not have animals.
