On-line auction of one-of-a-kind celebrity dog bowls.

When does a basic dog bowl become something more? Answer — When it’s a one-of-a-kind piece of “pup art” created with love by many of today’s hottest stars. Scheduled to launch on November 29, 2011, Bowl Project 2011 is an online charity auction featuring ceramic dog bowls that are custom painted by such celebrity animal lovers as: Paula Abdul, Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White, Jessica Simpson, Jane Lynch, Chelsea Handler, Cindy Crawford, William Shatner, and many others.

These collectible bowls are personally signed by each celebrity artist and will be sure to last a lifetime. The bowls’ conveyed messages are an important reminder of the love and affection pets offer people, especially those in need of care most.

PAWS/LA is pleased to announce the highly successful auction results of its first Bowl Project 2010.

On Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010, Bonhams & Butterfields in Los Angeles auctioned 6 one-of-a-kind artist bowls in their Made in California contemporary art auction. The bowls, painted specifically for PAWS/LA ‘s The Bowl Project by master painters David Hockney, Ed Ruscha, Robert Longo, Ross Bleckner, Chuck Arnoldi & Kenny Scharf, brought in outstanding auction results.

A total of over $35,000 was raised by the art collecting public. Ed Ruscha’s Untitled  (“FIDO”), 2010 brought in a whopping $22,500.  Wow!

PAWS/LA would like to thank the many festive attendees that participated in our first ever costume contest, America's Next Top Pet.  The evening's competition was full of fun, tasty treats, plus tiny and not so tiny dogs. Our food-bank turned into a pumpkin-patch stage, where the dressed-up pets strutted their stuff with hopes on landing the title of TOP PET. Finding the winner was truly a challenge but after our staff members voted, the winner for the 2010 PAWS/LA presents AMERICA's NEXT TOP PET is ..... Baby! Baby, was dressed as an adorable Angel. Daniel Mejia is the proud owner of Baby. Baby will be PAWS/LA's first-ever Animal Advocate. It will lend its' recently awarded title and charm to raise awareness to the work PAWS/LA does for the many pets around the Greater Los Angeles area. PAWS/LA’s annual art auction, Pet Art, came with a twist this year with the auction being held online from December 1-10, 2009. Innovating the auction process with an online platform allowed PAWS/LA to reach a nationwide audience and expand the scope of the auction process.

The auction featured over 80 pieces of animal-themed art in a wide variety of media.

World renowned artists such as William Wegman, Herb Ritts, Glen Wexler, Gwynn Murrill and Gary Baseman, among others, donated artwork for inspired collectors and art lovers alike. The auction also featured mid-career artists and emerging new talent.

Bidders were given the opportunity to choose from sculpture, ceramics, watercolors, lithographs, oil paintings, fine art photographic prints and more.

Year after year, PAWS/LA is proud to continue to offer outstanding art at affordable prices.

Proceeds from its annual art auction support PAWS/LA’s programs to provide care for the pets of people who are physically and financially debilitated by a life-threatening illness.

On Thursday, October 29, 2009, PAWS/LA celebrated 20 years of keeping people and pets together with a gala dinner event held at the Avalon Hollywood.

This very special evening featured Lily Tomlin, the Emmy-award winning comedienne and star of television, theater, and film in an “up close and personal” conversation with the audience.

Ms. Tomlin was joined by her Desperate Housewives “sister”, Emmy-winner, Kathryn Joosten which provided the crowd with a lively, intimate evening.

Renowned comediennes, Wendy Liebman and Merrill Markoe, emceed the event and preformed their own special material. In addition to the comic relief, PAWS/LA honored selected individuals for their commitment and dedication to the agency’s mission. Honorees included, Elizabeth Taylor and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation; Paul Jolly and the PetCo Foundation, and PAWS/LA Founder, Nadia Sutton.

The 20th Anniversary Gala was sponsored by the Petco Foundation, Wells Fargo, David Bohnett Foundation, Wallis Foundation, Automated Case Management Systems, Carl Jud Foundation, Blue Angel Vodka, K & L Wine Merchants and Hamilton Selway Fine Art.

On Saturday September 26, 2009, PAWS/LA presented the first annual ReelDog Film Fest, a cinematic celebration of all things canine! The film festival was held under the stars at Cheviot Hills Park in West Los Angeles where film lovers shared a night out with their favorite canine companions.

The festival showcased the winners of the juried competition of canine-related short films including Dog Park Phenomenon, by indie-film writer/director Matt Koval; and Whose Dog Is It Anyway by Golden Globe/Emmy winner Cindy Chupack.

Participants also enjoyed walking around a flea market of canine related products such as beds, toys, leashes, collars, and more.

All of the money raised went to support the programs and mission of PAWS/LA.
